2017 Wild Flowers Of North And East Yorkshire
- East and North Yorkshire
North and East Yorkshire is a fabulous area for wild flowers. From moorland bogs to chalk grassland meadows and towering chalk cliffs, an amazing range of landscapes creates a diverse range of habitat for plants.
The North York Moors National Park encompasses an exciting variety of habitats, offering a diverse range of flowering plants. In the acid soil of bogs, species such as Marsh Lousewort, Common Butterwort, Round-leaved Sundew, Bogbean and unusual sedges are waiting to be discovered, while the limestone grasslands contain Fairy Flax, Yellow Rattle, Black Medick, Kidney Vetch and a myriad other plants. We will also be looking for members of the fascinating orchid family such as Fly, Heath-spotted, Green-winged and Common Twayblade. A variety of ferns can be seen in the woodlands, along with ancient woodland indicators such as Sanicle.
In the Yorkshire Wolds we shall visit chalk woodland and grassland such as Millington Wood and Pastures SSSI. Here we may find plants such as Dropwort, Lady’s Bedstraw, Bloody Crane’s-bill, Rock-rose, Burnet Saxifrage, Small Scabious, Devil’s-bit scabious and Thyme.
You will enjoy easy and relaxing rambles in the beautiful landscapes of the Wolds and National Park, while your expert guide helps you find and identify many different flowering plants, with hopefully a few rarities included!
