Summer Yorkshire Wildlife Safari 2019

Summer Yorkshire Wildlife Safari 27th - 29th June 2019

North and East Yorkshire is a beautiful and peaceful place in mid-summer full of wildlife. Our exclusive safari is aimed at discovering a wide range of wildlife from Orchids and Butterflies to Seabirds and Birds of Prey.

In the Yorkshire Wolds and North York Moors National Park we will be visiting some wonderful wild flower meadows teaming with colour. From chalk and limestone grassland habitats to heather moorland there’s a rich diversity of landscapes to explore. If you love Orchids this trip is for you with Butterfly Orchid, Heath-Spotted Orchid and many more on the cards.

Some of the butterfly species we will be hoping to find include rare Yorkshire species such as Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Large Heath. On our late evening safari deep in the forest just before dark, the weird and wonderful Nightjar wakes up and hunts for insects. The Great Yorkshire Forest is also one of the best areas in the north of England for seeing Goshawks, Crossbills and Turtle Doves. This fast declining bird is a special addition to our tour and with luck we should see or hear their distinctive purring call.

Summer in East Yorkshire is the best time to see one of our most iconic birds the amazing Atlantic Puffin. A visit to Flamborough Headland is a real wildlife spectacular with hundreds of thousands of seabirds swarming around the huge chalk cliffs!

Our accommodation at the four-star Highfield Farm is close to some of the most famous Trout streams in the UK teaming with wildlife. This is a great place to see Kingfishers, Barn Owls, Water Voles and we may even catch sight of an Otter!

Our small group tours ensure you learn a great deal, from identification tips to field craft advice, as well as getting to grips with those difficult-to-find species. If you are interested in nature photography, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn new skills or improve your technique from our experienced and enthusiastic photographers.

Company Director And Birding/Wildlife Guide

Richard’s love of birds and wildlife started at age nine when he watched wide eyed as a charm of European Goldfinch fed on a thistle within a few feet of him in the grounds of his primary school. The next day he was busy drawing the flock in his art class./tutors/2/richard-baines-pgdip-mcieem
