Flowers and Wildlife on a Lowland Farm

Birkdale Farm is a 300-acre working family farm in the heart of the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. On the farm 100 breeding Romney ewes graze species rich wild flower grasslands and an Environmental Stewardship agreement helps support rare and captivating arable plants, wildflowers, farmland birds and protect soil and water.

We will be hosted by Frances the farmer who is passionate and very knowledgeable about her wild flowers especially scarce arable plants such as; Red Hemp Nettle, Weasel Snout, Corn Mint, Large Flowered Hemp Nettle, Small Flowered Buttercup and Ramping Fumitory. Frances will also be able to tell us about how they manage the farm to create a balance between making a living and conserving the wonderful wildlife habitats on their holding. She has also promised home made cake!
