Lowland Meadows and Wetland Flowers

Nestling in a peaceful valley east of the bustling city of York is a wide-open ancient landscape full of wildlife; the Lower Derwent Valley. In June 2015 our YCN flower walk was a huge success with over 150 species seen on the day! In the marshy habitat’s species such as Water Purslane can be found on bare mud together with both Pink Water-speedwell and Blue Water-speedwell.

The magnificent floodplain grassland has many rare species such as Narrow-leaved Water Dropwort among a range of interesting herbs including Ragged Robin, Pepper Saxifrage, Cat’s-ear and Marsh Stitchwort.
