Spurn Birding Holiday - Autumn Migrants 2022
- Kilnsea and Spurn East Yorkshire
Spurn is one of the top Bird Observatories in the UK for bird migration. The unique long, narrow hook of Spurn at the southern end of the Holderness coastline encourages birds to follow the narrow peninsular concentrating numbers of birds in a relatively small area.
A great place for finding and studying common migrants from Scandinavian thrushes to terns and wildfowl. Spurn is also one of the top sites in the UK for rare and scarce birds. In the last five years our YCN trips to Spurn have encountered Masked Shrike, Olive-backed Pipit, Great Grey Shrike, Long-billed Dowitcher and Siberian Accentor!
Adjacent to the peninsular is the vast Humber Estuary, home in autumn and winter to hundreds of thousands of waders such as Red Knot, Bar-tailed Godwit, Curlew and grey Plover. These fantastic flocks make impressive viewing on the mudflats and saltmarsh as they create wonder murmirations over the mudflats.
YCN make a large donation to Spurn Bird Observatory every year from the profits of our trips. To see how your trip makes a difference Click Here
