Birdwatching or birding is a wonderful way to connect with nature. There are so many birds around us and each one has a different story. Based in York the course will be 8 sessions over 8 weeks - in the classroom and out in the field.
Are you interested in the birds around you but don't know where to start? Join our course to find out the best equipment to get you started, the best places to see common birds and the top tips of how to identify birds in your local environment. Whether it's sorting out the thrushes from the blackbirds or making sure you know a chaffinch from a bullfinch we will take a steady approach to birdwatching and help you start your new found hobby"
Have you started birdwatching recently but still unsure of going out on your own? You've picked up the basics but want to know more about the different families of birds, their habitats and how key identification features? Join our intermediate group and we will support you to delve deeper into the lives of the birds around you, finding out more about their adaptations, their behaviours and their songs & calls
What you can expect on the Birdwatching Course:
- A small group of 8 - this creates great opportunities to interact with your teacher/guide
- Professional, local, expert teacher with a lifetime of birding knowledge
- A learning environment where everyone is involved and has fun
- Course materials including a YCN birding notebook
- If you need a pair of binoculars, we will have a pair for you to use on the course
YCN will make a 5% donation to a local bird conservation project from the income of this course. Your booking makes a real difference for wildlife!

Margaret Boyd BSc PGCE
Margaret has been a keen birder from an early age, growing up in the Ribble Valley, in Lancashire. At a younger age Margaret spent most of her time out in the field on her local patch as well as birding across the country and abroad. She spent a summer as an/tutors/17/margaret-boyd-bsc-pgce
