Birding Discovery Day - Uplands In Spring 2023
These tours are timed to commence with the onset of spring in the Yorkshire Dales. The moors and upland meadows now bursting with life. A multitude of breeding waders such as European Golden Plover, Eurasian Curlew, Northern Lapwing and Common Snipe are displaying over their moorland homes. Freshly arrived Ring Ouzels are proclaiming their territories alongside Common Cuckoos, Northern Wheatears and European Stonechats.

Fast flowing streams and rivers pass through verdant hay meadows which later in the season come alive with wildflowers. White-throated Dippers, Grey Wagtails and the occasional Common Kingfisher grace these waterways. Whilst amongst the cloughs and woodlands we can find breeding Green Woodpeckers, Common Redstarts and Spotted Flycatchers.
Red Grouse are abundant across the moorlands here and we shall also be on the lookout for the majestic Black Grouse in the adjacent grasslands and meadows.
