Black Grouse Birding Safari - Spring 2025

The northern Yorkshire Dales are a wonderful place for birding. Distinctly different from rest of the National Park.

the lower valleys are dominated by traditional hay meadows whilst the tops are largely heather clad. The birdlife here is more diverse than the southern Dales and the rather bare Three Peaks uplands.

The sought after Black Grouse has its English southern stronghold here and we will search the moors and meadows for them. Its cousin the Red Grouse is the most abundant species here and they can be regularly seen displaying at the roadside.

Other key birds on this itinerary include autumn passage visitors such as Ring Ouzel, whilst Dipper and Grey Wagtail frequent the fast flowing rivers. On the higher ground there is a chance of finding the elusive Merlin which still nests in the area and Short-eared Owl
