Firetail Safari

Common Redstarts once referred to as Firetails because of their flashing red tail are beautiful songbirds which return to the UK from Africa in April.

Redstarts nest in the North York Moors National Park amongst ancient woodland often along tranquil river valleys where many other spring birds can be found such as Common Cuckoo, Pied Flycatcher, Spotted Flycatcher and Tree Pipit. Nearby nesting waders such as Eurasian Curlew and Northern Lapwings are often feeding their young chicks at this time of year.

Join expert guide Richard Baines on this very special safari in search of the flashing Firetail and much more. Please note: this one day trip includes transport. Meeting place in the town centre of Helmsley, North Yorkshire. Details to be sent after booking.

Richard’s love of birds and wildlife started at age nine when he watched wide eyed as a charm of European Goldfinch fed on a thistle within a few feet of him in the grounds of his primary school. The next day he was busy drawing the flock in his art class./tutors/2/richard-baines-pgdip-mcieem
