Spurn Wader Id & Phonescoping Workshop 2022
Want to take your wader identification to the next level and learn how to capture your birding experiences on film?
Join us for a five day workshop which combines wader identification with hands on wildlife filming on your mobile phone. We'll spend 5 days at the amazing Spurn Bird Observatory, Kilnsea and Humber estuary, one of the best places for birding in the country. We'll be focusing on, and combining two key disciplines:
- Identification of waders in a variety of plumages
- How to use your smart phone with a spotting scope to film and view our target species.
The workshop is timed with the start of autumn wader migration, perfect for summer plumage waders. Our experienced guides will supply the latest digital technology to get you the best sightings of the birds and provide comparative views between different species - so essential in learning the finer points of wader identification.
At this time of year there is always a great chance of land migrants too, with favourable conditions songbirds such as Icterine Warbler, Barred Warbler and Wryneck are not unusual at this time of year.
YCN make a large donation to Spurn Bird Observatory every year from the profits of our trips. To see how your trip makes a difference Click Here

Many thanks again for a wonderful Spurn trip full of information. Your professional approach & customer care could not be improved, with plenty of time spent to ensure that everyone was able to learn more about wader identification & digi-scoping. The lectures and get togethers in the early evening were a great way to round off the day before our evening meal.
