North Yorkshire
Region:
In the north of our area, ancient fishing villages cluster beneath rugged cliffs. Grouse erupt from the purple heather of the North York Moors National Park, while secretive Goshawks and Nightjars haunt forest and glade, along with brightly-coloured Crossbills, elusive Adders and scarce fritillaries. Moving southwards, elegant shearwaters skim the waves and skuas, the pirates of the air, give chase to other seabirds. Purple Sandpipers and white-winged gulls shelter at Scarborough, while curious seals swim close to Filey Brigg.
