Birding Discovery Day - Spurn Migrants 2024

Spurn is one of the best Bird Observatories in the entire UK for bird migration. Its unique combination of geography, habitat and location combine to attract, 'funnel' and concentrate migratory birds in a small, bird-rich area – the stuff of dreams!

At Spurn, you're literally surrounded by productive habitats, teaming with birds – from tiny Goldcrests and Yellow-browed Warblers to breathtaking, vocal flocks of Whooper Swans and arctic geese; from squadrons of Scandinavian Redwings, Fieldfares and Bramblings to Long-eared and Short-eared Owls arriving in off the North Sea; to Merlins, Peregrines and harriers patrolling the area for lunch; and in spring, there's nowhere like Spurn for continental 'overshoots', including Bee-eatersGolden Orioles and even rare swifts....

… not forgetting the incredible spectacles of wading birds right by us on the Humber Estuary – hundreds of thousands of shorebirds such as Knot, Bar-tailed Godwit, Curlew and Grey Plover (to name a few). And then there's the real chance of rarities – in recent years, our YCN trips here have enjoyed Bee-eatersPallas's Warbler, Two-barred Warbler, Masked Shrike, Dusky Warbler, Long-billed Dowitcher and many more!

These exclusive one-day tours are designed for everyone - from beginners to the more experienced – who'd like be part of small group tour, creating a real 'team' adventure.

Spurn/Kilnsea

Just returned from a wonderful 5-day trip to Spurn with Yorkshire Coast Nature. The two leaders, Richard Baines and Mark James Pearson were brilliant. Incredible knowledge of birds and calls combined with a passionate boyish enthusiasm ensured a great time was had by all. Despite the lack of perfect weather conditions, we still managed to see over 100 species! Many thanks guys. We'll be back for more next year. Paul Robinson October 2020
