Bhutan & India Birds And Wildlife April-May 2022

  • Bhutan and India

Birding and Wildlife of Bhutan & India 28th April - 17th May 2022

(Longer trip; 21 days)

The Kingdom of Bhutan is a small landlocked country located in the southern foothills of the Himalayan mountain range, sandwiched between the People's Republic of China in the north and the Republic of India in the south. It is a sovereign nation, with a total land area of 38,394 km² and a total population of 735553 (2017).

Bhutan is listed as one among the top 10 biodiversity hot spots in the world. Bhutan has total forest coverage of over 70% of the country's total geographical area with the constitution requiring 60% of the country under forest coverage for all times to come.

April - May trip: A longer trip focusing on subtropical evergreen forests with specialist species such as Wreathed Hornbill, Great Hornbill and Rufous-necked Hornbill. Plus mountains for the pheasants such as Blood Pheasant and Satyr Tragopan. Spring is the best time of year to see specialities such as Beautiful Nuthatch and Wards Trogon. This trip is the ultimate Bhutan trip!

A wide range of rare and endangered animals can also be found frequenting the dense jungles and high mountains of Bhutan. Due to the country’s conservation efforts and its unspoiled natural environment Bhutan supports thriving populations of some of the rarest animals on earth and has thus been classified as one of the last biodiversity hotspots in the world.

This is a joint trip with Bhutan Birding. There will be great birding and wildlife watching in search of fantastic encounters and speciality species in the jungles, mountains and river valleys of Bhutan. Incredible scenery, optional cultural visits to sacred temples and a short stay in Kathmandu. Leaders Richard Baines and Norbu, Birding Bhutan. Numbers limited to 10.

Group Size: 8
