Sunrise at Bempton was off to a shaky start the other morning. After inexplicably being wide awake at 3am I decided to haul myself out of bed, gather up my kit and head out to the cliffs for a morning photo session with the seabirds.
Every year from March to October Bempton Cliffs holds over 200,000 breeding seabirds.Gannets,Puffins,Kittiwakes and Guillemots take to the cliffs to nest on the ledges of the 400ft white chalk cliffs.
With spring well underway, temperatures rising and vegetation growing, it will soon be time to welcome three of the region's most delightful little butterflies. The Dingy Skipper, Duke of Burgundy Fritillary and Green Hairstreak.
The month showed plenty of encouraging signs of spring (unlike March last year), reflected in its cast of welcome long-distance arrivals, and topped off with some almost off-the-radar surprises, writes YCN's Mark James Pearson
